Why authenticity is overrated

Don’t you love these coaches who say all you need to do is “be authentic”.

Hmm.

First of all, if that means “just be yourself”, then that’s OBVIOUSLY all you ever can be.

Unless you’re a latex-mask-wearing voice-magician, being anyone else isn’t an option.

But being authentic isn’t a number-one success trait either.

Try these instead:

• Be contrary
• Be exciting
• Be irresistible
• Be smart
• Be healthy
• Be aware
• Be kind
• Be valuable
• Be funny
• Be happy

Just don’t settle for authentic.
