I was at a gig just before the pandemic hit, a rare chance to see the wonderful Christopher Cross at our Town Hall.

If you don’t know the name, you’ll probably know Ride Like The Wind, Sailing and Arthur’s theme.

I was so excited, I decided to film a little video snippet.

Then a stern-faced usher threw me a scowl, along with the international hand-symbol for, no, you can’t do that.

I found that strange. Myopic, even.

Why wouldn’t an artist welcome people sharing their live gigs on social media?

I’m not passing it off as my own, and it’s hardly going to stop anyone buying a proper recording.

In fact, just the opposite.

It might remind people that the ageing rocker is still alive and prompt a resurgence in interest.

Anyway, just so you know:

Feel free to share my stuff.

In fact, I’d be delighted if you did.

Just don’t pretend you it was you what wrote it.
