Have you been roasted?

We live in a world where slagging people off in public is the new norm.

Listening to comedian Michelle Wolf “roasting” the 45th POTUS and his press secretary last week, I felt a little sad.

Not for Mr Trump – he gives as bad as he gets – but for a world where it’s seemingly ok to be as rude and personally offensive as you want about anybody, anytime.

I’d rather conform to the old adage:

“If you haven’t got anything nice to say, keep quiet”

Of course, “nice” can mean a variety of things:

  • Constructively critical
  • Complimentary
  • Saving a friend from a bad decision
  • Motivational
  • Uplifting
  • Loving

And, just like anger harms the angry more than the victim, wanton rudeness says more about the issuer than the receiver.

That’s why I’ve declared this “Kindness Week” in the Jonny Hates Marketing Facebook Group.

Let’s go all out to praise, encourage and promote anything and anyone that’s struck a chord with us, shall we?

Who knows, it might catch on.

PS – I’m getting started by praising my friend Adam Stevens, who’s overcome adversity and all kinds of challenges to build his own thriving health practice. He’s my guest on the Jonny Hates Marketing Marketing Show on Tuesday the 1st May 2018 at 4PM UK. Don’t miss it!
