Why you shouldn’t be authentic

Let me clear up a misunderstanding.

Nobody wants you to be your authentic self.

Besides, the last time you were even capable of absolute, undiluted authenticity was when you were 90 days old, taking a dump in your diaper.

Everything you’ve said or done since has been for one of 3 reasons:

  • To make you feel good
  • To make someone do something
  • To stop someone doing something

So don’t pretend you’re simply being authentic.

We know there are other motives at play, and we can probably guess what they are.

But we’ll forgive you if you’re consistently useful, entertaining or both.

Try showing up with those things in mind, and it’ll work out way better than trying to “be authentic.”

Whatever that even means.

Love you lots,
Jonny

PS: “Wowzer!” and “OMG!” were just two things people said after my unmissable workshop on Monday, called “Thriving In Corporate Wellbeing” – [AKA – Tap Into The New Coaching Paradigm For 2025].

If you missed it, I’ll send you a recording if you reply to this email with “I missed it” along with a heartfelt apology.
