If you’re looking to pivot into corporate consulting – and if not, why not?! – there’s one thing you’re going to have to master:Â
Getting to the person who signs the cheques.
[Of course, not literally cheques these days, unless they’re a 5th-generation Victorian tailor’s shop.]
But anyway, the kiss of death to your promising practice will be the “got to ask my boss” line, just when you thought it was all going sooo well.
The antidote?
As ever, expect the expected. You always knew they were going to say that, so get it out in the open.
At your first sit-down, ask some sensible, reasonable, strategic questions to lay the ground for a successful enrolment:
- Who’s making the decisions on wellbeing strategy these days?
- Who signs off on budgets in this area?
- Who else should we involve in these discussions to make sure everyone’s up to speed?
You can use your instincts to develop variations on the fly, but getting this stuff nailed early-on is how your fortune will be made.
Love you lots
Jonny
