										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>I met an old lady in the street recently, and she asked me the way to the Post Office. </strong></p>
<p>So I began reciting blindingly accurate directions, using florid hand gestures as appropriate. As I watched her eyes glaze over, I realised my well-meaning words meant nothing to her, so I changed tack.</p>
<p><strong><em>“I’m going that way, let me walk you to the door”, I offered good-deedingly.</em></strong></p>
<p>In the ten minutes it took for us to amble gently round the corner to the Royal Mail depository, I was hit by an analogy.</p>
<p><strong>How often have you lost a “sure-fire” deal when a prospect wanders off and gets lost?</strong></p>
<p>Here’s how to avoid that, utilising the “walking-them-to-the-door” method:</p>
<ul>
<li>If they agree to buy, stay on the line while they find their credit card</li>
<li>When a new contact suggests you “must have a coffee sometime”, arrange it there and then in your online calendar</li>
<li>Get your scheduling software to send appointment reminder messages one day, four hours and one hour before</li>
<li>After booking and before the call happens, send them a one-pager or have them fill out a questionnaire so you&#8217;re front of mind</li>
<li>If an enrollment call has to be extended, book the next call while you’re still on the first</li>
<li>If they say they want to come on your programme in 3 month’s time, take a deposit now to secure their place</li>
</ul>
<p>Your professionalism will win you sales, and your clients will thank you when they’re benefiting from your glorious talents.</p>
<p><strong>Just like the old lady thanked me as she posted her letter in the right slot.</strong></p>

<p>That&#8217;s not like me at all, right!?</p>
<p>But I needed to get you attention, because we need to talk about AI.</p>
<p>We need to talk about how AI is going to take 25% of white-collar jobs in the next 5 years. That&#8217;s mass elimination of paid work for tech geeks, financial folks, lawyers, customer service, etc etc.</p>
<p>Some of those people are your current clients. No doubt.</p>
<p><em>When they lose their jobs, they lose their means to pay you, and you lose them as a client.  </em></p>
<p>Working 1-2-1 with individual members of the public is about to get even harder than it is now.</p>
<p>Unless you&#8217;re an eccentric millionaire or have means of support through your partner, your property portfolio or your pension, I&#8217;m guessing you need revenue to survive.</p>
<p>So, how do you make yourself immune to the career-destroying rampage of automated jobs?</p>
<p>It&#8217;s the answer to the question:</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><em>Which roles require the presence of a sentient, empathetic human, with the ability to guide, support and love other humans, and acting always for the greater good?</em></strong></span></p>
<p>Seems to me you&#8217;ve got pretty solid potential as a wellbeing practitioner, if you can break into working with companies and organisations.</p>
<p><strong>Here&#8217;s why:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Employees are more stressed and anxious about the future than ever</li>
<li>Employers need them to be happy, engaged and productive, more than ever</li>
<li>There&#8217;ll be a huge demand for career realignment coaching to keep people useful and earning money</li>
<li>Companies and organisations are increasingly creating budgets for the wellbeing of their workers and execs</li>
<li>You can easily turn your existing skills and modalities to working with teams, leaders and businesses without much realignment</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>There&#8217;s never been a better time to start some corporate outreach, so I&#8217;ll leave you with a simple thought exercise: </strong></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>&#8220;Who do I know in a position of influence where significant numbers of people are employed?&#8221;</em></span></p>
<p>When you&#8217;ve made your list, pick up the phone, send emails or DMs offering to talk about making their lives easier.</p>
<p><em><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Your</span> life in the Age of AI could depend on it. </strong></em></p>

<p>If that’s true, why would we expect to get paid for dispensing information?</p>
<p>This week alone, I’ve asked Google and ChatGPT the following thorny questions:</p>

<li>Did Hitler have children?</li>
<li>What’s the average weight of a beagle?</li>
<li>Who sung the highest note, ever?</li>
<li>Why is the ocean salty when the rivers that flow into it aren’t?</li>
<li>How many vitamins are there?</li>
</ul>
<p>All were answered rapidly and reasonably accurately, although there were a variety of possible options for one or two of them.</p>
<p>We don’t need people to give us information anymore.</p>
<p>Your clients certainly don’t want you feeding them information.</p>
<p>They want freedom from pain, stress and longing. They want happiness, health and abundance.</p>
<p>It’s your job to enable all that, and more.</p>
<p><strong>Cut down on the info and tell stories of how you’ve helped others just like them, so they can see how you can help them too. </strong></p>

<p>Sure, 3 decades spent launching and selling my own businesses making over 8-figures in sales counts for something, but 6 years ago I was a rookie to social media, funnels, signature offers and all that clunky shizzle.</p>
<p><strong>2018, I knew I needed to reinvent myself online, so I had a poke around some of the online “influencers” (lol) and didn’t like what I found…</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Extraordinary results claims – sometimes “guaranteed”!</li>
<li>Scarcely believable timeframes – (7 days to killer abs, anyone!?)</li>
<li>Noisy, annoying video sales pitches – stop shouting at me!</li>
<li>Wealthy marketers shaming you for being broke</li>
<li>Obviously fake backstories – (18 months from Nan’s basement to NYC penthouse!?)</li>
</ul>
<p>…you can add a ton more of your own, right!?</p>
<p><strong>And right there and then, I decided I hated marketing.</strong></p>
<p>But you know the thing I hate most about sleazy, dumb marketing?</p>
<p>That highly polished sales process that sucks you in and forces you to SPEND MONEY.</p>
<p><strong>Stuff that only works if you’re burning cash to get rolling…</strong></p>
<p>&#x1f974; $300/mo on ClickFunnels<br />
&#x1f974; $500/mo on ads<br />
&#x1f974; $500/mo on a junior agency clerk to run your ads<br />
&#x1f974; $5,000 – $10,000 on “coaching” to put the whole damn thing together</p>
<p>And the really bad news?</p>
<p><em><strong>It’s probably not gonna work anyway.</strong></em></p>
<p>REASON: They’re $$$ ahead of you.</p>
<p>And tactics that work when you’re in the X,000,000 club are irrelevant and useless when you’re just starting out.</p>
<p>Of course, those mega-marketers are still following the basic PRINCIPLES of client attraction.</p>
<p>They’re just needlessly and ruthlessly complicating it to keep you hooked in.</p>

<blockquote><p><em>“Eliminate the impossible, and what you’re left with is the answer.”</em></p></blockquote>
<p>I use a similar process to streamline my business, save energy, and supercharge growth.</p>
<p>You see, getting more successful is easier if you eliminate the stuff that isn’t working.</p>
<p><strong>If you STOP doing things:</strong></p>
<p>a) That you don’t enjoy<br />
b) That are creating no obvious benefits, and<br />
c) That could be done by someone else anyway</p>
<p><strong>Then what you’re left with is the answer. </strong></p>
<p>Where the question is:</p>
<p><em><strong>“How can I fill my life with interesting, productive and rewarding work?”</strong></em></p>
<p>And now you’ve got time to do more of that, your chances of success are amplified.</p>

<p><strong>Important to remember: if you start out in business refusing to take responsibility for your outreach, you&#8217;ll fail. Crimes against start-up marketing include:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Sticking a course up on Thinkific/Udemy etc and expecting people to magically buy it</li>
<li>Hiring a VA to find leads and appointments on Facebook/LinkedIn</li>
<li>Doing lazy-ass posts to your latest workshop/programme/course with a sign-up link</li>
<li>Putting tickets on Eventbrite thinking people will see them and buy them</li>
</ul>

<li>Password – please tell me you’re not using that, or P455word or P@ssw0rd. It’s not big, and it’s not clever.</li>
<li>QWERTY or ASDFGH – hackers will love you!</li>
<li>123456 or 098765 – they’ve got your number, and it won’t end well</li>
<li>YourName1 or BusinessName1 – come on, you can do better than that</li>
<li>Date of birth – yeah, like they can’t find that!</li>
<li>Common words – hackers have a list, and it’s bigger than yours.</li>
</ul>
<p>If you’re even slightly guessable, start again, and make a crazy one. Actually, several different crazy ones.</p>
<p>Then, store them in a password depository like <a href="https://www.dashlane.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Dashlane</strong></a>.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[Only a few things needed...]]></description>
										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>When I was a kid, I vividly remember how Xmas morning always felt like a big deal.</strong></p>
<p>THE biggest deal, in fact.</p>
<p>Mum and Dad would never let me down, it seemed. They’d read my mind, and satisfied my every desire.</p>
<p><strong>They didn’t have a lot of spare cash, and only years later did I realise how LITTLE they really had.</strong></p>
<p>And yet, by midday on the 25th December throughout my childhood, I’d be luxuriating in my pirate’s hoard of new stuff, with a warm glow inside that lasted weeks afterwards.</p>
<p>Another thing I remember is how there were two kinds of presents.</p>
<p><em><strong>Big, expensive, “Main” presents which went under the tree, and “Stocking Fillers” which filled, well, a stocking on the fireplace.</strong></em></p>
<p>Scalextric and oranges, respectively, probably.</p>
<p>They both gave me a warm glow, but the “Mains” just seemed more important and valuable.</p>
<p><strong>And in your 21st-century expert business, it’s crucial you understand the important, valuable, Main things to focus on, and spend less time and energy on the Stocking Fillers.</strong></p>
<p><strong>MAINS:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Clear focus on your ONE thing for your ONE ideal client</li>
<li>Creating a value-packed signature programme that hits their spot every time</li>
<li>Talking to someone who looks like your next ideal client, every day</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>STOCKING FILLERS:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Updating your website</li>
<li>Getting new gear – cameras, mics, offices etc</li>
<li>10,000 followers on every SM platform</li>
<li>Building a complicated sales funnel</li>
<li>Writing tons of online content for your fans to download</li>
</ul>
<p>The stocking fillers are the things you wouldn’t miss if they weren’t there.</p>
<p>Christmas would still be Christmas without them, right?</p>
<p><strong>Just don’t skimp on your mains.</strong></p>

<p>There are a few techy things you&#8217;d better master though, so your clients don&#8217;t think you&#8217;ve been living under a rock these last 10 years.</p>

<li>A calendar scheduling tool so you&#8217;re not faffing around trying to negotiate meeting times</li>
<li>A payment platform that accepts cards so you&#8217;re not faffing around sending invoices</li>
<li>A Zoom account so you&#8217;re not faffing around with phone calls or Skype (LOL)</li>
</ul>
<p>See the common thread?</p>
<p>Claiming &#8220;<em>technophobia&#8221;</em> as a virtue may feel like it&#8217;s letting you off the hook.</p>
<p><strong>But your clients are going to get frustrated with your unnecessary faffing around, and assume the rest of your work is flawed too.</strong></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I caught up with one of my therapist clients recently, and they said they&#8217;d had a tough month, &#8220;because their website wasn&#8217;t finished&#8221;.</p>
<p>Their web-guy [like web-guys do] had missed all agreed deadlines and was now unresponsive.</p>
<p><strong>Result: therapist focusing on that, and forgetting to talk to any prospects.</strong></p>
<p>I bet you&#8217;ve been sidetracked more than once, and not just by a mismanaged web-project:</p>
<ul>
<li>Laptop issues</li>
<li>Broadband not connected</li>
<li>Tax returns to finish</li>
<li>Business partner left</li>
<li>Online banking glitches</li>
</ul>
<p>I&#8217;ve heard them all, and experienced most of them.</p>
<p><strong>And they&#8217;re just excuses.</strong></p>
<p>One of the most successful coaches I know &#8211; and he&#8217;s been my coach too &#8211; doesn&#8217;t have a website or any social media profiles.</p>
<p>But you know what he does?</p>
<p>He talks to people who look like his ideal clients, day-in, day-out.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s really great about that is that it doesn&#8217;t rely on anyone or anything else.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When you look at your phone, PC or tablet, do you think about the cost?</p>
<p>150 years ago, Henry David Thoreau wrote,</p>
<p><strong><em>The cost of a thing is the amount of what I will call life which is required to be exchanged for it, immediately or in the long run.</em></strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s now well understood that excessive screen-time is the thief of social interaction, wellness and leisure.</p>
<p>It saps energy, creativity and critically, your life.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s some ideas that might help you slow, or even reverse that flow:</p>
<ul>
<li>Unsubscribe from almost everything. Not this, of course.</li>
<li>Use devices for one purpose, and don&#8217;t sync them. eg &#8211; PC for work, phone for texts and calls, tablet for videos and music</li>
<li>Stop tinkering with digital trivia, and employ technology only if there&#8217;s a massive transformational benefit from using it</li>
<li>Leave your phone at home when you go out to socialise. Scary, but hey &#8211; you might get to talk to people</li>
<li>Have books lying around where reading your phone is currently the default action &#8211; the loo, the bedroom, the lounge</li>
</ul>
<p>As <a href="https://www.bakadesuyo.com/2018/11/wasting-time-on-the-internet/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>author Eric Barker says</strong></a>, you don&#8217;t pick up a hammer unless there&#8217;s a nail around.</p>
<p>Approach your digital tools with that in mind, and everything will get better.</p>

<p>I say &#8220;talking&#8221;, as he was holidaying in his glorious French home where the internet is patchy, to say the least.</p>
<p>It was one of those conversations that brought to mind the first mobile phones back in the late 80s.</p>
<p>Lots of &#8220;Hellooo&#8230;can you hear me Steve?&#8221; and &#8220;Sorry I missed that&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>Not a good connection.</p>
<p><strong>It got me thinking about the MVT &#8211; Minimum Viable Technology &#8211; you need to be a coach, therapist or consultant in the 21st century. </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>You don&#8217;t NEED a website. Some of the most successful coaches I know don&#8217;t have one.</li>
<li>You don&#8217;t NEED any social media profiles, although a personal FB account might help show you&#8217;re not an alien!</li>
<li>You don&#8217;t NEED email lists, funnels and sales pages.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>No, the current-day MVT is simply a reliable internet connection, with enough bandwidth to hold video calls. </strong></p>
<p>You&#8217;ve got permission to grow a global business, right there.</p>

<p>So the question is, should you do this, and how?</p>
<p>Like many other aspects of self-promotion, the answer’s in the nuance. Building a tribe of raving fans is a wonderful asset – some might say essential – but there’s no need to be braggy about it.</p>
<p>Saying,<strong> “Look! Another client saying how amazing I am!”</strong> is one thing.</p>
<p>Another thing entirely is taking the opportunity to demonstrate social proof and remind potential future clients how they might benefit from working with you:</p>
<p><strong>“I’m so excited that xxxxx got such a great result from our work together. If her experience resonates, let’s talk about how we could get the same for you.” </strong></p>
<p>That’s not bragging, it’s just giving us an insight into your world, your power and your value.</p>

<p>1 &#8211; INCOME &#8211; This is directly linked to the number of offers you make to people who can afford to pay you what you&#8217;re worth. It&#8217;s as easy (and as hard!) as identifying your ideal clients and telling them how you can help them, regularly.</p>
<p>2 &#8211; FREEDOM &#8211; The permission to be where you want, whenever you want springs from your ability to set up a 21st century practice that doesn&#8217;t need YOU to be there, permanently in a specific location. Automation, delegation and abdication are the bywords that&#8217;ll gain you true freedom.</p>
<p>3 &#8211; CONTRIBUTION &#8211; Once you&#8217;ve attained &#8220;happiness-levels&#8221; of income and freedom, the icing on the cake is doing work that changes people&#8217;s lives, deeply and joyfully. Creating great results for your clients will spur you on to even greater heights of income and freedom, so this is probably the most important of the three steps.</p>
<p>As Ruffino reminds us, people all over the world need YOUR help, right now. They have nagging problems and burning desires that only YOU can solve or satisfy.</p>
<p>Remember the legendary Zig Ziglar? He had it right when he said:</p>
<p><strong>You can get anything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.</strong></p>

<p>In fact, every time you offer your contact details in exchange for something, real or imagined, you&#8217;re in a funnel.</p>
<p>Why have marketers always done this?</p>
<p>Because funnels work.</p>
<p>A funnel is simply a way for an organisation to segment and communicate with its prospects and clients in a structured way, to improves sales.</p>

<p>In fact, it&#8217;s more and more the only thing that is actually yours.</p>
<p>By which I mean ~</p>
<ul>
<li>Your Facebook profile, page or group isn&#8217;t yours</li>
<li>Your Instagram account isn&#8217;t yours</li>
<li>Your Twitter account isn&#8217;t yours</li>
<li>Your LinkedIn contacts aren&#8217;t yours (although you can download their email addresses &#8211; for now)</li>
</ul>
<p>They belong to the faceless monolithic corporations who run them.</p>
<p>On the other hand, your email list and the stuff you write and send out can&#8217;t be hijacked, banned or closed down by anybody.</p>
<p>Use social media to its fullest, of course.</p>
<p><strong>But always respect, protect and nurture what&#8217;s truly yours at the same time.  </strong></p>

<li>Stop doing non-essential stuff. You already know what that is, don&#8217;t you?</li>
<li>Automate everything you can. The tools are easy to find</li>
<li>Work with trainers and coaches so you don&#8217;t have to learn from YOUR mistakes</li>
<li>Delegate whatever needs doing, but doesn&#8217;t need you doing it</li>
<li>Create passive income from subscriptions to low/medium priced programmes</li>
<li>Switch from 1-2-1 sessions to group programmes</li>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I did an inspirational <a href="https://www.facebook.com/jonnycooperUK/posts/10155291403823087?pnref=story" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>interview yesterday with Jo Self</strong></a>, international strengths coach and global traveller.</p>
<p>She reminded me of one of the Three Great Freedoms which a life as a successful coach, trainer, therapist or consultant can bring &#8211; LOCATION freedom*.</p>
<p>Jo&#8217;s running her coaching practice from Lima, Peru and has clients in the US, UK, Australia and all around Europe. By structuring her business for maximum flexibility, she&#8217;s realised that she doesn&#8217;t actually have to be ANYWHERE in particular. Just somewhere will do.</p>
<p>Working like this, using video smiles instead of sweaty handshakes, doesn&#8217;t mean you have to be a backpacking digital nomad &#8211; although you COULD be.</p>
<p>It just means you choose where you live, eat and sleep at any point in time.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If a coaching support site had an FAC (Frequently Asked Complaints) section, this is how it&#8217;d probably read:</p>
<p>C: I can&#8217;t get my Buffer/Tweet Adder/ManyChat to automatically get potential clients contacting me.<br />
A: Neither can anyone else, because that&#8217;s not the way the world works. Put some time into nurturing relationships, give value, and your clients will begin to announce themselves to you.</p>
<p>C: Nobody wants to buy my course, which I just spent 3 months creating.<br />
A: Maybe you should have spent 3 months instead talking to your ideal clients and getting into their world of pain and desires. Then you could have built something they actually wanted.</p>
<p>C: My mate&#8217;s a coach, and he&#8217;s got three houses and two Mercs. Why haven&#8217;t I?<br />
A: Not all coaches are successful, but some just work harder, smarter and/or get lucky. Stop comparing yourself to others and be the best version of yourself you can be.</p>
<p>C: Why do I keep getting asked for refunds?<br />
A: Probably because you&#8217;re not listening. Ask everybody who wants their money back, why? Make a list of reasons and engineer them out of your business, one-by-one.</p>
<p>C: Why do I keep getting blocked on Facebook?<br />
A: I&#8217;d answer that, but you&#8217;re blocked so I can&#8217;t see you.</p>
