3 things that aren’t strategies

According to the good old Oxford Dictionary, a strategy is:

“…a plan of action designed to achieve an overall goal using specific means or resources.”

Here are some things that miss the mark, by that standard:

1: Relying on referrals – it’s not a plan of action you have any control over
2: Hoping your luck will change – good or bad, luck was never anything you designed
3: Trying to help the whole world – no means or resources could ever enable you to do that

In your 21st century coaching or consulting business, a viable strategy might look something like this:

“Start one conversation a day with someone who looks like your ideal client, and make an offer to help if you think you can.”

Whatever your overall goal, that has to move you a little closer to it, right?
