Get AI-smart

Have you noticed how AI tools endlessly flatter you, whatever you suggest to them?

Over the last few days, ChatGPT has told me:

You nailed it!
That’s the winning move!
Very perceptive!
You’re right!
Great plan!

I even deliberately tested it with some arrant nonsense, and it buttered me up like I’d just found the cure for world hunger.

The danger here is that you’ll produce and publish garbage with very little utility or value for anyone else.

“AI Slop” as it’s becoming known.

The cure – create a standing prompt which you either upload as a general instruction – you can do this with most platforms – or copy and paste it with each request you make. It goes like this:

Do not attempt to flatter me or mindlessly support my ideas. I want you to create the best possible answers to my request by undertaking the deepest and most wide-ranging research, as I am always seeking the optimal output from you even if you have to criticise my thinking. I don’t care if you contradict my views or offend me. I only want empirically the very best, most valuable response from you. If you want to be my friend, be that critical friend who always acts in my best interests, even if I hate you in the moment.

The dumbest person you know is currently being told “You’re absolutely right!” by ChatGPT.

Get smart. Be wrong.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: The Wellbeing Consultancy Launch pack will be published over the weekend. When it drops, you’ll want it.

Type “WCLP” in response to this email and I’ll make sure you get the info pronto.

We’re all familiar with the Know > Like > Trust funnel of engagement, leading to a client wanting to work with you.

But there’s a fourth step, equally as important as the others.

It’s called Interest.

You have to be interesting.

Just because they believe you, and think you’re a nice chap/chapess doesn’t mean they’re going to buy your offer.

The “WOW” factor is what’s going to tip them over in your direction and have them begging you to take their money.

Be cheeky, creative and quirky.

Be playful, provocative and polarising.

Be different, daring and divisive.

But above all, be interesting.

Is that too much to ask?

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: If you could work as a consultant to improve mental health and wellbeing across companies and organisations, you have a passport to a glorious future of impact and revenue.

Reply to this email with “interest” and I’ll send you a guide to making that happen.

The robots are here!

Apologies for the slightly alarmist headline.

That’s not like me at all, right!?

But I needed to get you attention, because we need to talk about AI.

We need to talk about how AI is going to take 25% of white-collar jobs in the next 5 years. That’s mass elimination of paid work for tech geeks, financial folks, lawyers, customer service, etc etc.

Some of those people are your current clients. No doubt.

When they lose their jobs, they lose their means to pay you, and you lose them as a client.

Working 1-2-1 with individual members of the public is about to get even harder than it is now.

Unless you’re an eccentric millionaire or have means of support through your partner, your property portfolio or your pension, I’m guessing you need revenue to survive.

So, how do you make yourself immune to the career-destroying rampage of automated jobs?

It’s the answer to the question:

Which roles require the presence of a sentient, empathetic human, with the ability to guide, support and love other humans, and acting always for the greater good?

Seems to me you’ve got pretty solid potential as a wellbeing practitioner, if you can break into working with companies and organisations.

Here’s why:

Employees are more stressed and anxious about the future than ever

Employers need them to be happy, engaged and productive, more than ever

There’ll be a huge demand for career realignment coaching to keep people useful and earning money

Companies and organisations are increasingly creating budgets for the wellbeing of their workers and execs

You can easily turn your existing skills and modalities to working with teams, leaders and businesses without much realignment

There’s never been a better time to start some corporate outreach, so I’ll leave you with a simple thought exercise:

“Who do I know in a position of influence where significant numbers of people are employed?”

When you’ve made your list, pick up the phone, send emails or DMs offering to talk about making their lives easier.

Your life in the Age of AI could depend on it.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: We have openings for a handful of skilled and experienced wellbeing practitioners to join us in the CIB project in August.

Reply with “CIB” and I’ll fire you over a short doc explaining the application process.

You're gorgeous!

If you want to see yourself as others see you – and why wouldn’t you? – you have the greatest self-appraisal tool ever right there in your pocket.

It’s called your smartphone.

Here’s a challenge for the next seven days:

Hold your phone at arm’s length, fire up the front-facing video camera, and start talking

Do 30 seconds, then stop and playback. Review and repeat 3 times

Learn to speak with power and clarity. When people listen to you, they decide who you are, what you stand for, and whether they like you

Check if you’re smiling. You’ll entrance 6.7 times [estimated] as many people compared with wearing a glum or serious face

Do a video-selfie session like this every day for a week, and you’ll be much better able to engage people next time you hold a real conversation.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Engaging people with your conversation is key to landing a handful of lucrative corporate clients who’ll work with you long-term, and with deep impact.

If you’re wondering how to do that, reply with “Selfie” and I’ll fire over a guide book all about it.

You know when you get invited to “guest” on someone’s podcast?

And you know how you show up, all experty?

And afterwards, do you remember thinking, “WTF was all that about?”.

Well, keep it up.

Here are seven steps to ensure podcasts will always be a big fat waste of time for you:

1: Don’t bother researching the podcast target audience. Just blather on about your favourite topic. They’ll love it anyway.

2: Don’t find out what the host is going to ask you. Playing it by ear is way better than having any kind of structure.

3: Don’t set any objective for your participation. Who cares if you got nothing out of it? Podcasts are fun, right?

4: Never enquire about the size of their audience. It’s none of your business, and they might think you’re rude.

5: Don’t do a sound-check beforehand. This ain’t the BBC, so it doesn’t matter if you sound like a wartime fighter pilot.

6: Don’t promote your appearance anywhere round your social. The host’s reach is plenty enough to get you famous.

7: Have a really hard-to-spell domain name so nobody catches it when it gets read out. If they’re interested, they’ll find you.

In short, podcasts.

Yea!

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Maybe you don’t need too many podcasts slots if you join me and your 50 brilliant CIBlings in the CIB project, as you change the world BIG-TIME with a handful of lucrative clients running companies and organisations at scale.
The door is open...

9-figure entrepreneur Leila Hormozi talks big sense when she says:

“Poverty isn’t a disgrace, but not striving to overcome it is.”

I’m obsessed with exponentially growing my wealth from where I started – with nowt. Or at least, by most standards, with very little. My parents both worked hard all their lives, but left us nothing beyond our memories of their deep love and devotion to my brother and me.

We’re alive at the dawn of The Age Of AI – a point in history every bit as pivotal as the invention of the internet & social media – and this means it has literally never been easier to thrive with an online business.

And you know what the biggest opportunity is right now?

I’ll tell you, but first, let me frame your current, outdated reality.

For years now (I’m assuming) you’ve been solving a problem for your ideal client. Probably quite an important problem to them, and they’ve been paying you a little something in return.

So, here’s the next-level version of that, which will create the next-level version of YOU too:

Use AI to solve bigger, more complex problems for your ideal clients.

Go deeper into the first-principle causes of their challenges so they never recur

Generate irresistible marketing messages so you captivate them from the get-go

Create sales collateral instantly and spend the time you save on client delivery

Build courses, ebooks and social posts in minutes and chill out way more

Use automation tools to reach 10x more people than you could manually

Whatever you do, do something.

There is no longer an excuse for simply ending up where you started.

I was recently talking to a friend of mine on a Zoom video call.

I say “talking”, as he was in a noisy coffee shop in a mountain village in rural Spain, where the internet is patchy, to say the least.

It was one of those conversations that brought to mind the first mobile phones back in the late 80s. Motorola brick, you dig me?

Lots of “Hellooo…can you hear me Vincent?” and “Sorry I missed that…”

Not a good connection.

It got me thinking about the MVT – Minimum Viable Technology – you need to be a coach, therapist or consultant in the 21st century.

You don’t NEED a website. Some of the most successful coaches I know don’t have one.

You don’t NEED any social media profiles, although a personal FB account might help show you’re not an alien!

You don’t NEED email lists, funnels and sales pages.

Those things are kind of second-stage luxuries, once you’re rolling.

No, the current-day MVT is simply a reliable internet connection, with enough bandwidth to hold video calls.

You’ve got permission to grow a global business, right there.

Well, we’re almost halfway through the first month of 2025, and this is pretty much as long as most NYRs last.

Why?

Because resolutions in themselves rarely contain plans of action.

They’re often just wishes.

Wouldn’t it be nice if……..?

And they’re goals rather than processes.

My NYR (actually my business plan, but what’s in a name, right?) is to make CIB Global a seven-figure business this year.

My process is to build a team of four experts with individual skills greater than mine in their specialist areas, and fully align them with the business plan.

If I do that, I know it’ll make my NYR come true.

There’s nothing that says you can’t reaffirm your resolutions today.

Just make sure you know exactly how you’re going to keep to them.

How long will it take me to learn to use it?

What’s the likely revenue return on the cost?

Should I get someone else to handle the whole thing, tech and all?

Will my clients see any benefit from me using this?

A tool isn’t useful if life was better without it.

Let's get on with it!

We’re sitting at a pivotal point in history.

Some of the questions my tribe have been asking in the last few months would have sounded like gibberish five years ago:

Could a robot take my job?

Should I be using AI to write my content?

What would I do if Facebook closed my account?

What do my clients need that could never be automated?

How can I possibly cope with the social media algorithm changes?

Yet all those questions (and more) should be on your radar from this day forwards.

Make no mistake, thriving in the online coaching or therapy space has never been easy. But if you think you can keep on doing exactly what you’ve been doing till now, you’ll be lucky to see out another year.

[Happy New Year, by the way.]

I predict we’re going to see a contraction in our profession, as so many talented practitioners will give up the unequal struggle against social media, AI and better-marketed competitors.

Of course, my dearest wish for you is to ride this new wave and flourish for as long as you want.

So, to guide you into your exponential future and mark this glorious 12-month clean sheet ahead of us, Fritha and I have published an all-new, unmissable white paper.

The 2025 Coaching And Consulting Success Blueprint
[Five Things you Must Be Doing To Survive And Thrive This Year]

It lays out EXACTLY the steps to focus on – and what to move away from – and I’m releasing it exclusively to my subscribers (that’s YOU) right here, right now, with my compliments.

Here’s where to grab your copy.

Ever been on a video call with someone where the internet is patchy, to say the least?

Like one of those conversations on the first mobile phones back in the late 80s.

I had exactly that, yesterday afternoon.

Lots of “Hellooo…can you hear me Dave?” and “Sorry I missed that…”

Not a good connection.

It got me thinking about the MVT – Minimum Viable Technology – you need to be a coach, therapist or consultant in the 21st century.

You don’t NEED a website. Some of the most successful coaches I know don’t have one.

You don’t NEED any social media profiles, although a personal FB account might help show you’re not an alien!

You don’t NEED email lists, funnels and sales pages.

No, the current-day MVT is simply a reliable internet connection, with enough bandwidth to hold video calls.

You’ve got permission to grow a global business, right there.

Slow down in paradise!

One of the stupidest aspirations of online entrepreneurs in the 2020s is wanting to be a “digital nomad”.

Sitting on Bondi Beach, sipping an Alien Nipple (it’s a cocktail, Google it) with your laptop on your knees.

For starters, you can’t see the screen for the bloody sun, there’s sand in your mouse and you really, really shouldn’t post when you’re drunk.

Trust me on that last one.

So bury that thought, along with the backpacking trip to Machu Picchu where you imagine you’ll be building your coaching business along the way.

Trouble is, there’s no frikkin internet up there, you’ll be too knackered to even open your MacBook, and anyway how dare you think about work when you’re in such a sacred place?!

Then you hitch-hike back to Europe to AirB’n’B for a few weeks in that bijou bedsit just off the Champs Elysees. Yeah, that one with 3mbps Wi-Fi, groaning plumbing and a family of sewer rats as co-lodgers. Not to mention the bed-bugs, so let’s not.

This is what the “I can work from anywhere in the world” goons have misunderstood.

Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should.

And “anywhere” is not the same word as “everywhere”.

Here’s what location freedom actually means:

Pick one bloody lovely place, preferably with few guns and no wars nearby

Maybe sunny, but definitely civilised. Shops, food, comms with the outside world etc

Buy the fastest fibre internet connection you can find, and cable your laptop to it

Get at least two monitors. Three is optimal

Work like an obsessed maniacal entrepreneur four days a week

Commit to two years in one place to settle your mind, body and creativity

Take the long weekends off. Walk, climb, swim. Stay fit and healthy

FYI – I just did that. It’s called Gibraltar. You should check it out.

Love you lots
Jonny

The most productive people and businesses in the world pay careful attention to their work environment.

Thomas Edison had a meticulously-designed lab in New Jersey where he invented and developed world-changing technologies and products

Rudyard Kipling sought out a perfect sanctuary in Suffolk where he could quietly go about his peerless creation

Google leads the way with inspirational campus-style workspaces that bring out the best in their employees.

Here’s a checklist to see how your environment might be holding you back:

Can you see the daylight from your desk? You should.

How many plants (Real, live ones) in your workspace? More than none is good.

How many monitors? If you do most of your work online, three is the optimum for productivity.

Whiteboard? Essential for doodles, notes and goal setting in plain view.

Standing or sitting desk? Try standing, at least for phone or video calls. It’ll boost your power and impact

Distractions? If you operate from home, set clear family boundaries. When you’re at work, you’re at work.

Clutter? Clear that desk! There’s no excuse for for piles of papers, staplers, plates and cups.

Flaky internet or phone signal? Do whatever it takes to sort it out.

Find your sanctuary, clear your mind, do your great work.

I see so many coaches and therapists in my community labouring for years to get multiple qualifications, in the belief it’ll help them get more clients.

Two things about that:

1: Your clients don’t care about your qualifications. They only care if you can solve their big expensive problem, or move them closer to their hopes and dreams.

2: As James Clear says – “You can only be qualified to do that which you have already accomplished or trained for. Anything new is accomplished by unqualified people”

I’d much rather work with people who are continually pushing out of their zone of genius into unchartered territory.

Standing atop a mountain of your own making is a much more powerful success driver than proudly displaying the same few letters after your name as thousands of others have before you.

Invent something original. Innovate, create and differentiate. Learn to market yourself, instead of gathering tools.

Give us a shiny new thing you built, and you’ll shine out like a crown jewel in the mundane jumble-sale of your mediocre peers.

Love you lots

Do you work in an unfriendly workspace?

I mean unfriendly to calm, focus and getting-stuff-done?

I’ve always had a pathological aversion to clutter and hoarding, but I recently went full-on minimalist.

Since I moved my office around, painted the walls (thanks Tanya Cooper), laid new carpet and embraced some simple Feng Shui principles (thanks Tandy Pryor), my productivity has soared.

And day after day, I get to peek inside YOUR workspaces, as we jump on Zoom calls together and shoot the breeze.

And I have to say, there are some messy buggers out there.

Not you, of course. Unless you’re a messy bugger, then maybe you then.

Here’s the thing:

How you do one thing is how you do everything™

HYDOTIHYDE for short.

And here’s another thing:

Tidy desk, tidy mind™

TDTM for short.

Your clients have an instinct for HYDOTIHYDE, even if they don’t tell you in so many words.

And nobody wants to work with someone who’s prepared to live in a shambles.

Maybe it’s time to clear out, smarten up and earn more money.

Love you lots

EEK!

To celebrate the new month, I’m going to share three times I massively failed on social media, and how I learnt to put it right.

Here’s the first one:

I used to post links to my blogs and videos on Facebook.

This is such a colossal blunder, yet for months I couldn’t work out why nobody was clicking on my posts.

Then a friend with an inside line to Facebook (yes, those people exist) explained the error of my ways.

Social media companies hate people leaving their platform to go and devour content anywhere else, so they don’t show posts with external links to hardly anyone.

On Facebook, this means your organic reach is massively restricted if you slap an invite to your latest WordPress blog post or your magnificent video on TikTok or YouTube.

Solution: tease your audience with a “native” post all about your fabulous new creation, and ask them to type a keyword (blog, video, etc) in the comments so you can personally provide a link for them.

Result: exponentially more people will see your post, plus you’ll have visibility of who’s interested so you can keep in touch and ask what they think.

So, stop posting links to external content and you’ll see an immediate uptick in engagement.

You’re welcome.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Watch out tomorrow for the second of the three massive social media mistakes I’ve made so you don’t have to.

Crazy crazy

Full disclosure: I’m pretty new to this online marketing game.

Sure, 3 decades spent launching and selling my own businesses making over 8-figures in sales counts for something, but 6 years ago I was a rookie to social media, funnels, signature offers and all that clunky shizzle.

2018, I knew I needed to reinvent myself online, so I had a poke around some of the online “influencers” (lol) and didn’t like what I found…

Extraordinary results claims – sometimes “guaranteed”!

Scarcely believable timeframes – (7 days to killer abs, anyone!?)

Noisy, annoying video sales pitches – stop shouting at me!

Wealthy marketers shaming you for being broke

Obviously fake backstories – (18 months from Nan’s basement to NYC penthouse!?)

…you can add a ton more of your own, right!?

And right there and then, I decided I hated marketing.

But you know the thing I hate most about sleazy, dumb marketing?

That highly polished sales process that sucks you in and forces you to SPEND MONEY.

Stuff that only works if you’re burning cash to get rolling…

🥴 $300/mo on ClickFunnels
🥴 $500/mo on ads
🥴 $500/mo on a junior agency clerk to run your ads
🥴 $5,000 – $10,000 on “coaching” to put the whole damn thing together

And the really bad news?

It’s probably not gonna work anyway.

REASON: They’re $$$ ahead of you.

And tactics that work when you’re in the X,000,000 club are irrelevant and useless when you’re just starting out.

Of course, those mega-marketers are still following the basic PRINCIPLES of client attraction.

They’re just needlessly and ruthlessly complicating it to keep you hooked in.

SO HERE’S THE NEWS: Ditch The Gurus

Learn the principles of client attraction. What I call The Three Pillars of Effortless Marketing.

I’ve laid them out on a simple cheat-sheet, and you can grab it FREE here, with my compliments.

Take a look and maybe you ain’t never gonna need no guru.*

Jonny

PS – *Before you mention it, that’s a triple negative, which makes it a positive, right?

Well, it's done now

I changed the name of my 7,200-member Facebook Group yesterday.

I know, I know.

Changing an established brand name. Risking losing loyal followers. It’s almost unthinkable.

It’s also usually a terrible idea, like when WeightWatchers became WW, or someone decided to call Twitter by a letter reserved for adult movies.

But changing the name of your favourite FB Group (tell me it’s so) makes perfect sense for one big, important reason.

YOU.

Yes, I finally woke up to the idea that “Jonny Hates Marketing” was all about me. Maybe people were thinking, Jonny hates marketing? Good for him. What’s that got to do with me?

So I finally did the market research I shoulda done 7 years ago, and asked a buncha people what they actually thought about marketing.

“We hate marketing” said 66.7% of the respondents from San Marino, Europe’s third-smallest country. The other one jabbered something in Italian I couldn’t make out.

And closer to home, over half my family said they didn’t understand marketing. Technically exactly half, as my son was asleep and didn’t reply.

Then last week, an industry expert from Shard End (look it up) finally brought everything into focus as he eased his taxi into the bag-drop outside Birmingham Airport. “That’ll be £37.50 mate”, he said without a hint of irony. “And by the way, everyone hates marketing!”

And just like that, I saw the error of my ways.

So what if Jonny hates marketing? You do too. Of course you do. Why wouldn’t you?

Yep. You, me, and random strangers everywhere are in complete agreement.

Everyone. Hates. Marketing.

Welcome to EHM.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Don’t worry if you’ve got weblinks starting with JonnyHatesMarketing. They won’t be changing. I may be triggering mild confusion right here, but that would just be bloody chaos. 🥹

Get one of them right...

When you’re looking to build an engaged community and keep them engaged, there are two types of content you need to master.

1: STATIC CONTENT

This is your banners, headlines, Group names, profile names and “about” sections.

It’s where you hone, optimise and perfect how you appear to your ideal clients when they come across you for the first time.

The great thing about static content is the time leverage you get from creating it.

Once it’s working, you don’t need to keep tinkering. In fact, staying consistent in the way you appear to people is crucial to building your brand identity and avoiding confusion.

2: DYNAMIC CONTENT

This covers posts, blogs, offers, emails, direct messages and anything else you create on the hoof for your followers to consume and get to know you better.

So many professionals in our community seem to focus on pumping out endless dynamic content when their static content is poor or non-existent.

Here’s the truth: your static content is what gets people into your community in the first place, or repels them forever.

And because it’s way easier to keep them once they’re in, this is where you should be focusing more of your attention:

Banners

Headlines

Group names

Profile names

About Sections

QUESTION: Can we see clearly who you are and what you do, or are you letting us scroll past, none the wiser?

It's money in the bank...

I’m a huge fan of investing to grow. Money makes money, right?

But “spending” isn’t the same as “investing”, and Seth Godin reminded me yesterday about the concept of an indifferent overhead.

This is money you’re spending that isn’t noticed by the people you serve.

Some examples:

Subscription software and platforms you don’t use anymore

Premium versions of software when the free version will do (LinkedIn? lol)

Over-expensive digital services when cheaper alternatives now exist (ClickFunnels vs GHL)

Foolhardy coaching programmes that mire you in debt and never move you forward

Out-of-control time and cash spent on “perfecting” websites, banners, and socials nobody’s looking at

As Seth says, if the client doesn’t care, perhaps you shouldn’t either.

Plus, you’ll save time and money to focus on what really matters:

Starting conversations with people who look like your next ideal clients.

EEEK!

When you look at your phone, PC or tablet, do you think about the cost?

150 years ago, Henry David Thoreau wrote,

The cost of a thing is the amount of what I will call life which is required to be exchanged for it, immediately or in the long run.

It’s now well understood that excessive screen-time is the thief of social interaction, wellness and leisure.

Here are some ideas that might help you slow, or even reverse that flow:

Unsubscribe from almost everything. Not this, of course.

Use devices for one purpose, and don’t sync them. eg – PC for work, phone for texts and calls, tablet for videos and music

Stop tinkering with digital trivia, and employ technology only if there’s a massive transformational benefit from using it

Leave your phone at home when you go out to socialise. Scary, but hey – you might get to talk to people

Have books lying around where reading your phone is currently the default action – the loo, the bedroom, the lounge

You don’t pick up a hammer unless there’s a nail around.

Approach your phone habit with that in mind, and everything will get better.

Clear thinking needed...

I’ve seen an epidemic of wannabe online coaches and therapists totally squandering the greatest free marketing resource in history.

Their Personal Profile on Facebook.

Three billion people log into Facebook every month, for an average of almost 20 hours each. That means you can easily be found by all the people you’re ever looking to attract, and you can find them.

But, there’s no automatic right to visibility. Here are five things you MUST do to make all this work:

1: Open up your privacy settings so anyone can see your name, your profile pic, your newsfeed and everything else a reasonable person would want to know before they reach out to you for help.

2: Optimise your banner, intro and bio so it looks like a landing page on your website. Give them something to do, and ONE place to go. Delete your LinkTree.

3: Post inspirational, original stuff that positions you as an authority in the area you work.

4: Don’t post anything you wouldn’t want anyone in the world to see, now or in the future.

5: Lift the curtain on your life, showing us your adventures, your family and your client successes. We want to see you as a 3D human, as an ordinary person doing extraordinary things.

This isn’t hard and it’ll repay you quickly, as the right people see how you’re the ONLY solution to their Big, Expensive Problem.

It's in your hands

If you’re writing social media content and nobody’s engaging, there are only three possible reasons why that’s happening. The last one is a direct result of the first two, so read them first. Obvs.

1: The Audience Problem

This is your most likely dream-killer. If you haven’t identified WHOSE attention you’re trying to attract, how will anybody know it’s for them?

You have the ability to curate your networks and communities of followers across social media, so use the tools at your disposal. Eliminate the wrong people, and invite the right ones. For your sake, and theirs.

2: The Content Problem

If your writing’s unfocused, inconsistent or just plain boring, even your IDEAL readers are going to run away and never come back. Hit them between the eyes with a catchy headline, then keep them enthralled with prose that blasts off the page like a Space X rocket launch. Without the crashing to earth in flames bit.

3: The Algorithm Problem

This is the brutal payback for you missing the mark with either/both of the above. Plus random self-mutilating habits like posting external links, fake news, hateful ideas and anything going against the aims of the channel where you’re squatting.

Realise this: Social media’s a game. The rules aren’t yours, and they’re non-negotiable.

Learn the rules. Play the game to win.

Next day was better

Years ago, I was a professional musician.

I say “professional” in the sense that it was my sole source of income, and in the not-unconnected-sense that I was broke.

One evening, probably a Tuesday, I was due to meet a couple of my bandmates for our customary 5 pints. But this night was different, as I’d arranged a job interview with a sales organisation the next morning.

C’mon, said the guitarist at 10.30, just one more! No thanks, I replied. I’m off home.

You’ve changed, he summarised.

Yep, I guess.

And not in a bad way, I thought.

I’d realised that I didn’t like the company I was keeping.

Not the musicians – all my enduring, multi-decade friendships are with those amazing, beautiful, creative folk – but the venue owners, the agents, the “clients” and everyone else who’d exploited my talent and skills for nickels and dimes those past 5 years.

And right there, I walked away from an old life to start the journey that got me here, right now, writing this for you.

The moral: when the people around you don’t align with you anymore, change the people around you.

Love you lots
Jonny

Writing gives you the chance to draft, edit and hone your message till it says EXACTLY what you want it to say.

And, as David reminds us, there are 3 other reasons why your clients might prefer to consume your text content:

1: People are either crazy busy, or they feel like they are
2: Video is hard for them to pull the good bits from
3: It takes time and singular attention to watch a video

I’d add to that a bonus Reason #4 Why Video Is Overrated:

4: You don’t need any special equipment, make-up or confidence to write stuff. Just get on with it…

Good to dream...

In the Coaching Freedom Club Secret Sessions, we often discuss the idea of outrageous goals.

Like what it would take to 10x your business.

As in, turn £30k revenue into £300k, or do £50k a MONTH instead of £50k a year.

And we inevitably land on some of the strategies and tactics that’d be a prerequisite of such exponential growth:

A deep, unwavering understanding of WHO your ideal client is

Seeing the world through their eyes at what’s bugging them, and what’s attracting them

A simple, evergreen programme that will answer those bugs and desires

Team members who can help you automate and delegate tasks you don’t NEED to be doing yourself

A scalable, sustainable process for every aspect of your business

But even with all that in place, you know what will derail your growth, every time, and perhaps forever?

If you can’t imagine what life would be like when you earned that kind of money.

So maybe that’s the starting point, right?

Imagine what it would be like.

Like most humans, I’m prone to learning as I go along.

1: Have an idea

2: Test it

3: Evaluate results

4: Tweak if necessary

5: Test it again

Anyway, I had an idea this afternoon which I want to test with you, as above:

What if I offered a Clear-The-Fog-Intensive coaching power session with a full satisfaction guarantee?

In other words, money back if you don’t get what you wanted.

We can talk about your biggest challenges, and your most ambitious goals. Like:

How to decide what to write, and when to post it

How to get people reading your content

Which tech platforms to use, and how

How to get them buying off the page

How to book more live calls

How to set up a workshop

How to set your prices…

…or anything else that’s on your mind right now. Clearing the fog with me will be a whole lot easier than doing it all alone in a darkened room.

Slots open for only THREE serious players this month.

Seems kind of irresistible, right?

All clear?

Or not, maybe.

If you could just master one of the two pre-eminent social media platforms for business, how do you choose?

The answer is, it depends.

If you’re primarily a life coach or therapist, FB, hands down.

Unless your ideal client is a business executive or entrepreneur, in which case, maybe LinkedIn.

And if you’re a business coach or consultant, you’ll want to master LinkedIn anyway.

Unless your ideal client is a solopreneur, in which case, maybe Facebook.

So, I hope that’s settled then.

Actually, there’s a nuance here, and it’s the reason why you’ll want to leverage BOTH FB & LI.

Have you ever tried to communicate via LI direct messaging? It’s tough, as some folks take days to reply, even weeks.

By contrast, FB pretty much invented instant messaging, and the world is umbilically connected by it. Response times can vary from a few seconds to a few minutes.

So, here’s a plan:

Invite your business contacts from LinkedIn to join your Facebook Group.

That way you might actually get to talk to them.

And yet.

You’re busier, more stressed and befuddled with tech.

Here are some questions to ask before you subscribe to the Next Big Tool:

Will I see any real benefit from using this?

What’s the time I’ll save if I use it?

How many of the features will I ever use?

Is there a simpler alternative? [HINT: there always is]

How long will it take me to learn to use it?

What’s the likely revenue return on the cost?

Should I get someone else to handle the whole thing, tech and all?

Will my clients see any benefit from me using this?
