This will propel you

When you’re making offers to work with companies and organisations on their employee wellbeing, it’s easy to miss the real reasons why people buy.

And they’re the same reasons people buy anything, from anyone.

There are only three things which motivate buying decisions, and we can call them sales levers. The harder you pull on them and the more of each you build into your offers, the more you’re going to create engagement, revenue and impact.

Velocity – does this get the buyer what she wants faster?

Friction – does this remove complexity or annoyance for the buyer?

Status – does this make them look better in the eyes of their peers/bosses?

Think of them like aircraft thrust levers, where the more you pull them, the more noise, excitement and acceleration you get.

How much more can you pull your levers?

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: I’ve been creating a short white-paper on identifying buyer priorities to make corporate sales more natural.

Reply to this email with “Levers” and you can have a copy with my compliments.

Simple stuff. Big results.

Author James Clear talks about three simple ways to get more of what you want:

1: Be kind and pleasant to others
2: Ask for what you want
3: Follow up

In your 21st century coaching or consulting business, the first should be a given, so let’s talk about the other two.

“Asking for what you want” could mean:

Writing a clear, single call-to-action on any posts where you’re offering something

Making sure you get paid at the point someone says they want to work with you

Engaging team members with concise, goal-oriented instructions

And, “Follow-up” includes things like:

Booking the next call during the call you’re on, if you ever want to speak to them again

Responding to comments on your posts, so you get to discover more about them

‘Walking them to the door’ by sending event and call reminders after they booked

To be Clear (see what I did there?), these are not the only ways to get more of what you want.

But you won’t get much of anything if you ignore them.

Love you lots
Jonny

There are only three ways to earn more money as a coach or consultant:

1: Find more new clients
2: Sell more to existing clients
3: Raise your prices

The third of those is the easiest to implement, and by some margin.

So easy, in fact, that it requires no effort on your part, beyond making the decision.

Here’s why you probably should increase your prices, right now:

You’re almost certainly undercharging at the moment

You’ll attract clients where you can have more impact

You’ll feel better about yourself, getting paid more

You can do more with your life, with more money

Your authority, value and reputation will increase

Finally, to bust a common myth:

You won’t find it any harder to make sales when you charge more.

JFDI, I dare you.

See you around
Jonny

PS: Talking of earning more money, it’s boom-time in corporate wellbeing consulting, and you could be part of it with a little tweak to your messaging.

It's all too much

I went over the border into Spain last weekend, and popped into an enormous Chinese supermarket selling a bewilderingly vast range of products.

Pretty much anything you could imagine, you could buy there.

My eyes were darting around, landing on food, toys, garments, travel accessories, household goods and god-knows-what.

Floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall, it was a smorgasbord of overwhelm. On just one shelf, rolls of duct-tape were piled high next to Rubik’s Cubes and clotheslines. Candles, wet-wipes and pencil sharpeners (multiple colour choices) were their close neighbours.

I could have bought anything I wanted, almost literally.

And yet, I came out without buying anything.

I get that same feeling when I browse social profiles, websites and sales pages from many coaches and consultants in my community.

Vague, wide promises

Endless lists of Things They Can Do

Rows of letters after their name tooting their impressive qualifications

Made-up job titles

Weird, mysterious brand names

Look, here’s the #1 Rule of Attention in 21st century marketing:

You have three seconds to engage, enthrall and entrance us with your single, irresistible offer.

That’s barely long enough to SAY “duct tape, clotheslines and Rubik’s Cubes”, let alone sell us them.

See you around
Jonny

PS: I’m in the East Midlands of England next Thursday the 23rd October, and have a few hours during the day when we could meet for a coffee. Reply to this email if you could be local, and we can fix something up.

I meet many coaches and consultants who’ve written a book, or want to write one.

Here are 5 reasons why you shouldn’t:

1: You think you can earn a living from book sales

2: You think people will be queuing up to buy it

3: It’s easy to do on Amazon these days

4: Everybody else is doing one

5: You’ve always had it in you

The one GOOD reason to write a book?

It will strengthen and support your core message, adding authority and power to your brand.

Everything else is just detail.

Oh, did I mention not to expect to earn a living from book sales?

Let it all out...

I was sitting at my piano the other night, and played a simple chord.

It struck me how many millions of other people must have played exactly that same chord throughout history.

Heck, maybe hundreds of people are playing it right now, somewhere!

Then I played another chord in a progression, and another, and a couple of notes in a melody.

At that point I knew for certain that nobody, anywhere, ever, had played what I just played, exactly how I just played it.

And in your 21st century coaching, training or therapy business, you don’t have to try too hard to be unique.

Don’t invent new language that’ll bemuse and confuse your audience

Don’t create a weird and wonderful modality that makes no sense to anyone but you

Don’t tell everyone what you do is ground-breaking and unheard of. They won’t believe you

Don’t go out to be different just for the sake of it.

You already are.

Just play your glorious music, and we’ll know it’s you right away.

Engage them again!

Internet multi-millionaire Russell Brunson describes the only two reasons why your existing clients will stop buying from you:

1: You do something to offend them, or
2: You stop selling to them

We’re talking about people who’ve paid you for your services at one time or another.

And we’re talking about them because they’re the people most likely to buy from you again.

Here are some ideas for things to offer them:

A reminder programme to top-up what you already showed them

A monthly membership club to offer continuous value and community

A more advanced VIP/Mastermind to take them to the next level

A variation of what they bought before, heading in a slightly different direction

1-2-1 support, tailored to exactly what they need right now

You can probably think of a load more, but you get the idea.

In your haste to farm the great outdoors for your next brand-new sales, don’t ignore the fortune sitting on your doorstep.

There are no former clients.

They’re all just clients.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Many of your clients will know people who run teams of people within businesses, ideal for your pivot into lucrative corporate wellbeing.

You can find out how to make this happen in my short, sharp workshop called “Five Steps To Lucrative Corporate Clients”.

It’s free but you’ll need to register, and quick.

Reinvention!

Old-style coaching or therapy business:

1: Charge by the hour

2: Fill as many hours as you can with low-paying clients

3: Struggle to fit in “marketing” and client delivery in an average week

4: Suffer roller-coaster revenue flow

5: Run out of time before you run out of ambition

New-style coaching or therapy business:

1: Decide who you want to work with

2: Offer a high-ticket group programme to solve their biggest problem with one touch-point each week

3: Launch it regularly when you’ve corralled together a specific (low) number of joiners

4: Fill the rest of your days with conversations with people who look like your ideal clients

5: Create a scalable and sustainable practice, thriving and earning exactly what you want

The main difference between those two approaches?

Old-style means spending 80% of your time on delivery, and the rest on random marketing efforts.

New-style means spending 80% of your time (at least) in conversations with people, and the rest on impactful, structured delivery.

If you’re too busy working with clients to make any real money, try flipping things around a bit.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: I took exactly that approach ^^^ with my four-person Client Attraction Blueprint programme, which ran from 2018 – 2024 with 107 launches and 428 people. It’s a perfect format to get your business rolling properly.

If you’ve been through the CAB or marketed your own version, the next logical step is to take your talents into companies and organisations crying out for corporate wellbeing support. Fewer clients, more impact.

Here’s a questionnaire to work out if you’re ready for it.

In Chandrapur, India, tigers kill around 40 people a year.

Each death is reported in great detail, and not just to commemorate the victims.

Bad news sells, which is why there’s no mention of tigers in the rare weeks when the humans and the big cats stay away from each other.

And in your 21st century online coaching or therapy business, a little mild peril might help draw your readers’ (or listeners’) attention.

How I lost $10,000 with a rogue coach

The night I almost died with an anxiety attack

The reason you’ll be broke forever

Why you’ll never have a great marriage

You’re watching your dreams ebb away

That stuff’s way more engaging than telling us you’re a relationship coach, a holistic therapist or saying you’ll “change our lives”.

In a world where everybody seems to be using the same, lame weasel words, it’s time to stand out.

Work it out...

Happy Saturday, and let’s talk about your future.

The future you haven’t built yet, but you’re dreaming about today.

You might feel like you have an established business, that you know exactly what you’re doing, and that all you have to do is keep going down the same path. Eventually, you’ll meet all your personal, financial and lifestyle goals, right?

Well, yes and no.

I ran an intimate, personalised marketing course for coaches called the Client Attraction Blueprint from 2017 to 2024, building businesses for over 400 students and generating almost $2M in revenue. After over 100 launches, I’d completely mastered every aspect of enrolment, delivery and impact.

I was truly on autopilot.

But by March last year I’d had enough of it. I woke up one morning and asked myself, “Is this my life?”

I realised the path to true growth and fulfilment comes from new ideas, from reinvention and pushing out of comfort zones into unchartered territory.

Now, I’m a year into my rebirth as founder of Consultants In Business, and challenging myself every day. Not only do we have over 50 skilled and experienced wellbeing practitioners in the community, but we’re winning lucrative corporate engagements that will endure for years.

There’s so much I don’t know about the business of corporate wellbeing, but I’m sure CIB has an exponential future, as it’s a holy alliance of my two core assets:

1: My lifetime experience launching, advising and exiting myriad ventures
2: The incredible depth of talent in my existing community of coaches and therapists

My only regret is maybe I should have got started earlier.

So, weekend thought exercise for you:

What is the most exciting, scalable and impactful venture you could create, given your skills, experience and ambition?

Drop me a reply with your answer, and I’ll give you a tip to help make it happen.

Love you lots
Jonny

Crazy prices...

Well no, likely you’re not.

In Paris last weekend, ordinary cafes asked me for €10 per cappuccino, and Nikes in the Champs-Élysées were twice the price I’d seen anywhere else.

People buy paper-clips from Tiffany’s for $1500, and tin cans from the same catalogue for $1,100.

$450 is the going rate for pre-dirtied jeans from Nieman Marcus, and you can even buy a burger for $6,000 at a Dutch cafe.

“Expensive” is a relative term, and it’s relative to the perceived exchange of value.

If you’re getting pushback from potential clients based on price, think about improving the value exchange.

Once they realise they have to have what you’re offering, right here, right now – and they can only get it from you – your work is worth exponentially more.

You just need to make them see it.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: One place you’ll always be valued is in the world of corporate wellbeing consulting. Just a handful of lucrative engagements can make your whole year, every year.

Want to find out how? Type “corporate” and I’ll send you my free eBook all about it.

Now let’s switch ONE word:

I get to pick the kids up from school

I get to talk to two clients a day

I get to earn £2,000 a month from my business

Here's an easier idea

In the rush for “passive income” there’s a flurry of coaches and therapists launching subscription membership communities.

And yet, there is a vanishingly small number of successful platforms creating anything like a viable lifestyle for their founders.

If you’re just starting out, here’s the truth about setting up a recurring revenue stream:

1: You need a lot of people to pay you small monthly amounts to make a living from it
2: Some people drop out after a month, and on average stay for 7-8 months
3: So, you’re constantly fighting to replace the ones who leave, just to stand still
4: At (say) £50/month subscription level, each member is worth £350-£400 on average
5: You’d be better off creating a £997 offer and selling that to a handful of people each month

OR…bonus idea: sell a £4,000 programme and let people choose their own payment plan. That way they’re committed to paying over the long haul, you have no concerns over cancellations, and everyone’s a winner!

I’m not here to burst any bubbles, and yes, there are outliers doing ok with memberships.

Some people win the lottery too, but that doesn’t mean you will.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: The ultimate antidote to low-paying memberships is scoring a handful of lucrative corporate engagements.

Who are your people?

Some questions:

Why are some people massively successful while others struggle to make a living?

How can one person amass a personal fortune doing what thousands of others do to almost no effect?

How can so few of us actually breakthrough and manage what the rest only dream of?

In other words, what makes the 1%?

They’re the inspirational, creative, productive, generous group, responsible for wealth-building and economic growth. The tiny elite who employ the world and change the world.

Here’s what the 1% looks like in the UK:

Generally a business owner or high-ranking executive

Personal wealth of at least £3m

Personal income over £250,000 pa

How can you achieve that? How can you become the 1%?

One of the key drivers of ultimate success, if not THE key driver, is the strength of your network.

Connections.

You’ll become the 1% by connecting to people who can help you get where you want to go.

Sadly, 99% of people are connected to the wrong people. They haven’t worked out who they need in their success network, and who to keep out.

They randomly link up with others who don’t share their goals. Every day, they’re being influenced by people who distract and disconnect them from those goals, sometimes forever.

Once you realise you get to choose who you hang out with, it’s a liberating revelation.

Exercise for today: Make a list of the ten people you have contact with most regularly. And yes, include your partner/spouse.

Then ask of each:

“Is this person moving me closer to my goals, or driving me away from them?”

When you have your answers, you know what comes next.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: When you become a CIB consultant, you’ll be hanging out with people who support companies and organisations at scale with their employee wellbeing.

A handful of lucrative corporate engagements will put you firmly in the 1% and liberate you forever from a mediocre life.

Reply with “1%” and I’ll send you my all-new eBook all about how to do this.

“A confused mind never buys”, as I mentioned to a marketing whizz friend at the weekend.

And she came right back with another obvious truth:

“Yes, and a confused mind never SELLS either.”

It got me wondering whether that’s more of a problem than the other one. Never mind muddling them up with industry jargon, convoluted acronyms and some crazy spin on your tools you just made up.

Maybe you’re winding yourself in knots trying to understand what the hell it is you’re really doing.

And maybe, until you get rid of that confusion over your offering, nobody else has a chance of understanding it, let alone buying it.

To kick off this glorious week, grab a pencil and write ONE sentence in answer to the question, “What is it you do?”, as if a 12-year-old asked it.

We’re all familiar with the Know > Like > Trust funnel of engagement, leading to a client wanting to work with you.

But there’s a fourth step, equally as important as the others.

It’s called Interest.

You have to be interesting.

Just because they believe you, and think you’re a nice chap/chapess doesn’t mean they’re going to buy your offer.

The “WOW” factor is what’s going to tip them over in your direction and have them begging you to take their money.

Be cheeky, creative and quirky.

Be playful, provocative and polarising.

Be different, daring and divisive.

But above all, be interesting.

Is that too much to ask?

It's everywhere and nowhere

You want to make money?

Bad news: It’s impossible.

Unless you’re a central bank or literally the printing press at the mint, nobody makes money. All the money you could ever need or want is already made.

It’s just in the wrong bank account.

I didn’t understand this for years. In my twenties, I tried all kinds of crackpot money-making schemes, and none of them worked. Never mind barking up the wrong tree. I was in the wrong forest.

Once i realised wealth creation is the reward for giving value, I changed the whole way I approached business.

I found more ways to help people

I got really good at marketing

I honed my sales chops

I created an impact

I changed lives

The more impact you have, the more people you help and the more lives you change, the more you’ll exchange that for personal wealth.

But making money?

Stop trying, and work on getting rich instead.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: One of the shortest routes to wealth creation is the massive impact you achieve through corporate wellbeing consulting. In fact, changing thousands of lives for the better will naturally attract financial rewards.

If you’re wondering how to do that, reply with “Wealth” and I’ll fire over a guide book all about it.

They'll love it

Whatever you’ve got planned for the next few days in your business, here are five ways to make sure it all gets done:

1: Don’t over-commit. Instead of saying you have to “record your video course”, decide to record one module a day. Nibbles beat gluttony.

2: Be specific. Don’t say “write some posts” or “make some sales”. Commit to how many, and by what time.

3: Close off distractions. When you’re working, use Google Docs, Zoom, Word, Notes etc. Copy it into social media when you’ve done it, so you don’t get dragged off into someone else’s noise mid-flow.

4: Power-up your mornings. The science is clear – you’re at your most creative when you first wake, till around lunchtime. Launch yourself into fabulous stuff early (coffee is allowed) then leave the afternoons for mundanity.

5: Reject striving for perfection. Act fast, build it loose, and shove it out for your tribe to play with. It’ll be good enough, and next time it’ll be even better. Greatness isn’t made in a dark basement, but from the glare of a hungry crowd.

5A: Bonus hack – Be proactive, not reactive. It doesn’t affect your business what your 803rd Facebook friend thinks about the football, so don’t waste time engaging. Stay in your lane, and drive your own agenda into the world.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Do you know anyone in HR, or people management in a large company or organisation? I might have a way for you to earn money from an introduction. Reply to this email with your thoughts…

Pack your cases!

One of the great privileges of a 21st century coaching or consulting business is you don’t have to be anywhere in particular.

Unlike your predecessors (or even your previous selves!) who were tied to a consulting room or commuting round the country visiting clients, you can choose to deliver your transformational genius entirely online.

Before moving my family to Gibraltar in the summer of 2024, I spent at least a quarter of the last 6 years working in the USA, Canaries, Andalusia, Tuscany and North Yorkshire, from where I’m back again writing this.

Here’s why I choose to do that, and why you might too:

Travelling is good for the soul

Meeting different people helps you grow

You can spend more time in sunshine (OK – Yorkshire not so much…)

Sharing family adventures is life-affirming

You can inspire your clients with fresh perspectives

As we’re already midsummer, don’t squander the glorious gift of location freedom – book a flight today!

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Did you know many companies and organisations will engage you to help their wellbeing, and you might even be able to deliver your work entirely online?

I’ve written a short guide on how to do this, and you can grab a free copy if you reply to this email with “freedom!”

Groovy, baby!

I used to play with a bass player who’d sit on a riff of 8 to 10 notes and repeat them over and over while we (keys, guitar + drums) jammed on top.

His favourite phrase was “It’s all about the groooove, man”.

The more we went round and round, the more intense, addictive and groovy it became for us, and our audience.

And in your 21st century coaching or consultancy business, it’s essential to lay down a solid groove for everyone to relate to.

Who’s your ideal client

What’s their biggest challenge

What makes their heart sing

What’s the clear outcome

How can they sign up

None of that needs tinkering with too much once you’ve laid it down, and you can flex your creative muscles around it with content, events, workshops and other fun stuff your clients will love.

Like a musical audience tapping their feet to your groove, your potential clients need to feel the rhythm and structure you bring to their world too.

People love the familiarity of the consistent sounds you make. Random chaos, not so much.

What’s your groove looking like today?

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Here’s a groove you’ll want to keep going once you’ve laid it down – corporate wellbeing consulting. You likely already have the skills you need, so it’ll be easier than you imagine to get into it.

Will it work for you?

Great marketing can come at a price, especially if you’re on the receiving end.

And double-especially if it’s a great marketer with a sub-standard product delivery.

Some I’ve seen recently:

A succession of glamourous young girls’ FB profiles fronting a male guru’s claims of 7-figure success

A heavily-advertised course promising all the things you need to conquer Facebook ads forever

The well-known downloadable programme with less than a 20% satisfaction rate

A slew of AI magic-bullet pedlars who suck you into their magnetic funnels

A best-selling author notorious for plagiarising others’ work

Just because they’re good at growing their own businesses, doesn’t mean you should let them loose on yours.

Always look through the gloss of the marketing that got you to their doorstep. Then, open the door and take a look around.

Ask to speak to people like you they’ve helped recently, and find out if their results match what you’re looking to achieve.

If there’s none to be found, turn and run.

You shouldn’t be paying them to find their next clients.

You’re paying them to help you find yours.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: One thing which requires great marketing is landing a handful of lucrative corporate wellbeing engagements.

If you’re unsure how to pull that off, reply with “Wellbeing” and I’ll send you an eBook all about it, with my compliments.

Reinventing the wheel is not an option in 2025.

At best, there’s an infinitely small chance that a new, completely original idea will capture an audience and gain traction.

As a coach or consultant, if you come up with a wacky idea for which no-one else has a substitute, it’s probably rubbish.

Even if it isn’t, most times when something’s brand new, any potential audience needs educating about what it is and won’t accept it right away.

“I didn’t realise I needed that” isn’t a useful reaction to your fabulous new concept.

All you truly need to succeed in building your tribe is an understanding of what they think they want ALREADY. Then, demonstrate you can provide a solution that’s believable and makes them comfortable with taking the next step towards you.

Of course, you can’t help but infuse originality in the way you deliver your solution, because you’re you, and nobody else is, right?

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: “Wowzer!” and “OMG!” were just two things people said after my unmissable workshop yesterday, called “Thriving In Corporate Wellbeing” – [AKA – Tap Into The New Coaching Paradigm For 2025].

If you missed it, I’ll send you a recording if you reply to this email with “I missed it” along with a heartfelt apology.

Six Little Words

There’s a famous tale about the legendary writer Ernest Hemingway, when he set some of his fellow authors a challenge.

“Write me a story in six words, and make me cry”, he wagered.

History hasn’t recorded the other entries, but Hemingway’s half-dozen became renowned for their conciseness and emotional gut-punch.

For Sale.
Baby’s Shoes.
Never Worn.

When you’ve finished blubbering – it gets me every time – consider the genius behind the economy of language. The value and impact you gain from it far exceeds the effort expended in reading it.

And in your 21st century online coaching or consultancy business, your potential clients need to feel your writing values their time more highly than yours.

Practice putting across massive, life-changing ideas in as few words as you possibly can.

Then ponder, and cut out a few more. The minimum viable wordcount is probably way less than you think.

Also, Hemingway’s story makes me eternally grateful my lad got to wear his baby shoes.

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: This coming Monday the 9th June, I’m running my groundbreaking workshop all about how to attract lucrative engagements with companies and organisations who need you, called “Thriving In Corporate Wellbeing” – [AKA – Tap Into The New Coaching Paradigm For 2025].

As Rich Litvin says, “Money stuff is rarely about money stuff”.

Money’s primary purpose is to create choice, freedom and opportunity, so it’s natural to seek a little more, always.

But in your 21st century coaching or consultancy business, you have to strike a balance between chasing money and not caring about money.

Too much chasing money and you’ll:

Seem desperate to everyone you talk to

Regard getting paid as the “close” of the deal

Employ debt collectors when someone defaults

Deny access to anyone unless they’ve paid you first

Refuse collaborations in case they steal your clients

Too much not caring about money and you’ll:

Undercharge, with everyone

Give your work away, always

Make no effort with marketing

Help anyone who needs your help

Collaborate with anyone who asks you

Before you take your next action, ask “what’s this telling me about my money stuff?”

Love you lots

The best marketers have realised that people prefer their transformations in two ways:

1: Quick
2: Easy
(Or 3: both)

That’s why we see slightly incredible claims like:

Rock hard abs in 30 seconds a day with NO exercise!

6-figure coaching business in 3 months with NO audience!

Eliminate stress overnight with this simple hack!

Lose 30 pounds in 30 days without dieting!

Speed-read a novel in 15 minutes this time next week!

etc etc.

And in your 21st century online coaching or consultancy business, you want to be emphasising the efficiency of your services.

So how about this, in response to a prospect telling you their biggest challenges?

“If we could work together for just a few weeks and make all that go away, would you be interested?”

Two words normally follow:

Hell. Yeah.

Love you lots

It's only money, but...

Here’s a question:

“Client says yes. Do you take payment or send an invoice?”

Well, here’s my angle:

There’s no better time to get paid than on the call when the client’s just said “hell yes”.

Why?

This is best practice NOT because:

You’re worried in case they change their mind

You need the money in your bank asap

You haven’t “closed” the sale until you’ve got paid

It IS best practice because:

It saves time for THEM and YOU

It gets the money conversation out of the way

You can now focus solely on delivering your glorious service

It’s hard to make a case for adding another step (or multiple steps) into the enrolment process, when you don’t really have to.

Chasing invoices, mailing out bank details, fingers-crossed waiting for them to pay – none of that is productive use of your time.

It also elongates the part of your relationship that’s defined solely by thoughts of your charges.

1: Get agreement
2: Get paid
3: Move on to the important stuff

Make sense?

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: On the 9th June, I’ll be running my groundbreaking workshop all about how to get paid more, more often, called “Thriving In Corporate Wellbeing” – [AKA – Tap Into The New Coaching Paradigm For 2025].

It's me!!

You know when you’re writing your bio or “About” section on your website or socials?

And you go all third person (He/she/they etc) or even worse, the mysterious “we”?

The reason you do that is so you appear bigger than you are. Make it seem like you’re an organisation in the hope you’ll attract bigger, better clients

Stop it.

Stay personal. Use me or I. Even “myself” – in the right grammatical context, obvs.

Otherwise, you’ll get found out when they ask to meet your crew, and anyway it’s pointless.

Throughout our CIB community, there are plenty of examples of sole practitioners landing international corporate engagements.

A US life coach worked with the VP of a billion-dollar insurance company for a six-figure fee

A sales trainer landed a three-month contract with a global travel company for multiple five-figures

A European wellbeing coach spoke on mental health for carmaker BMW

And all of them were solo gigs. No “We”. No team. Just little ole them.

Lesson: Big companies want personal attention, just like the rest of us.

Love you lots
Jonny

Crucial first step...

It’s all too easy to miss the stuff that really drives your business.

The metrics you should be measuring and working on are those which you can directly control – the inputs.

They’re the things which create the outputs which form the beating heart of whatever you’re building.

Here are some examples:

If you’re in car sales, you should be focusing on test drives

If you’re selling property, get more viewings

Plumbers – get more estimates

Software designers – get as many trial subscribers as you can

Authors – give away your best work

Coaches – push that free stuff out as hard as you know how

The rest is just conversations with people who now feel like they already know you, and you’re good at that, right?

Love you lots
Jonny

PS: Early next month, I’ll be running my groundbreaking workshop all about starting lucrative conversations, more easily, called “Thriving In Corporate Wellbeing” – [AKA – Tap Into The New Coaching Paradigm For 2025].

One. Thing.

As Seth Godin says, you might not get the microphone back for a while.

But that’s no reason to blather, or demand that your audience listens to a litany of stuff you think you need them to hear.

Nothing works better than a single, clear message. Some examples:

What one thing do you want me to do when I click on your website? It’s called the Most Wanted Action (MWA) and I need to be able to work it out in under 3 seconds.

Don’t email colleagues with a to-do list to be worked through by tomorrow. Ask them to do one thing, now.

When you’re presenting to a live audience, stick to the topic. Deviation is a crime that leaves our heads spinning.

Facebook ads/flyers/tweets not working? It might be because we can’t read your message for padding and waffle. Cut out ten words and try it again.

Rambling email newsletters with updates about you are a lousy way to stay in touch with your audience. Better to send them a quick note asking them to actually DO something specific and useful.

I don’t want to read about your wide-ranging skills and roles on your business card. If a two-word title can’t tell me what you do, it’s probably a made-up job anyway.

You wouldn’t ask your spouse to grab you a beer, bring your slippers, change the TV channel, book the vacation and walk the dog.

You might get one of those at best (more likely none) so don’t burden us with your woolly wish lists either.

Next morning, it hurt

The one time I got punched was a few decades ago, standing outside a pub late on a Saturday night.

I was waiting for my taxi when this guy around my age came and stood next to me.

He had an open bag of chips (fries for you ‘Mericans) that smelt flipping irresistible. Courage bolstered by a few pints of ale, I reached across, snatched one of his potato-based hot snacks, and stuffed it in my mouth.

Within milliseconds he lashed out and delivered a sturdy punch to the side of my head that sent me reeling.

Thankfully, my cab pulled up before I had chance to ponder my next stupid move, so I jumped in and went home to prepare for my hangover.

Why am I telling you this?

Because there are many other times in my life when I have enjoyed more than one chip purchased by someone else, and never got whacked.

Simple reason: I asked permission first. Most people are nice if you treat them politely.

And in your 21st century online coaching or therapy business, you can get amazing things for free, if only you ask:

Collaboration with a “rival” Group admin who has an audience of your ideal clients

Joint Venture using marketing assets devised by someone a bit smarter than you

Use of an inspirational post/meme someone else created

Permission to white-label an author’s eBook that might thrill your tribe

Requoting some inspirational blog you saw online

Plenty more, but you get the idea.

Just don’t get punched in the head (or anywhere else), as it could sting for years.

Love you lots
Jonny
